VIDEO: Driver Smacks Lamborghini Gallardo on Curve, Blames Broken Shoe Heel

Monday, April 4, 2011 0 comments

A twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Gallardo tuned by Underground Racing received an unwanted...facelift when the driver smashed the Italian supercar on a curve at the Caffeine and Octane event in Georgia this past weekend. A forum member who appears to be a friend of the car’s owner uploaded several photos and a description of the crash over at the Car Lounge.

According to the post, the blame is put on the driver’s shoe heels that “came loose and as he stepped on the brakes, the loose part stayed partially on the gas”. A set of videos showing the crash as it happened as well as the aftermath, which translates in a broken rear suspension, wheel damage and some minor body scruffs, also made their way online. You can watch them right after the break.

Lamborghini Officially Reveals Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante

Thursday, November 18, 2010 0 comments

Yesterday, thanks to an online leak, we got out first taste of the all-new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante. Today, the Italian manufacturer officially unveiled the 570 hp soft-top supercar, confirming that considerable effort was put into reducing the weight by 65 kg (143 lbs) and, this way, improving the Spyder's performance.

Lamborghini achieved this by replacing numerous parts with carbon fiber components, both in the cabin and on the body. Those obsessed with numbers should know that 40% of the weight savings can be traced back to the exotic composite.

The body shell is a spaceframe structure, made from aluminum, another material that goes easy on the scales, while being extremely strong. Making this setup even better was a huge task, Lamborghini says, but, thanks to the aforementioned carbon fiber parts, in the end, engineers pulled it off.

Lamborghini LP 570-4 Spyder Performante: "Official" Superleggera Spyder appears online

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 0 comments

Lamborghini may have just dropped some info and specs on its latest special edition Gallardo, the LP 570-4 Spyder "Performante". I say "may have" because nearly 100% of the information in the press release posted by a forum member of Teamspeed is cut and pasted from the Superleggera's original info sheet (barring the weight / height / speed differences).

The Performante - if that is, indeed, its real name - benefits from a diet thanks to Lamborghini's now Lotus-like commitment to weight reduction, resulting in a Gallardo drop-top that's 143 lbs / 65 kg lighter than its predecessor.

BF Performance Turns the Gallardo into a GT600

Monday, March 15, 2010 0 comments

BF-Performance of Zug, Swizerland, has just released a louder take on what a Lamborghini Gallardo should be. According to them, "the Swiss have higher demands...The Gallardo is too innocent and neither dynamic nor individual enough."

Uhh...right. Looks like they're serious though, because their take on the latest Gallardo results in the GT600; it's a model that slots smack dab in the middle into their Lambo lineup, right between the Gallardo-based GT540 and Murcielago-underpinned GT660.

Video and 'Live' Shots of the New Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera from the Geneva Show

Friday, March 5, 2010 0 comments

So, how do you make an already scorching hot supercar like the recently facilitated Lamborghini Gallardo even more spicier? Lamborghini's answer to that question is make it lighter and more powerful.

Easier said than done when you're talking about a car like the Gallardo that has already been pushed to the limits, but Lambo's engineers found a way to cut 154 pounds (70kg) bringing the weight down to 2,954 lbs (1,340kg) and add another 10 ponies to the V10 engine bumping output to 570HP.

Geneva Show: Lamborghini's Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera (with no puns!)

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 0 comments

This is how you condense press releases: Lamborghini's Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera-christened Gallardo weighs less and has more power. Now for the details: it's dropped 154 pounds (70kg), which brings it down to 2,954 lbs (1,340kg) dry, and it also picked up 10-horsepower along the way thanks to some computer finagling. Not only is it faster, the Superleggera is said to be ~20% cleaner and more efficient as well.

The new Superleggera's LP engine (it stands for "longitudinale posteriore", meaning the engine is longitudinally placed behind the passenger compartment) drops 570 horsepower and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque through an e-gear transmission (6-speed optional) and Lamborghini's all-wheel-drive system.

All that provides a 100km/h (62mph) clip at 3.4 seconds on its way to 325 km/h (202 mph). Thanks to direct injection, fuel mileage comes in at a Lamborghini-claimed 13.5L/100km (~17 mpg US).

Geneva Preview: Lamborghini's New Gallardo LP570-4 Supperleggera

Monday, March 1, 2010 0 comments

Set to debut in Geneva (really really soon) is the Lamborghini Murcielago SV's little brother. Called the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, it's set to carry some of its older sibling's feature characteristics (loud colors, swoopy graphics, big wing, and that black lower-body trim) while developing 570 horsepower.

Unofficial numbers are claiming a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 blips and a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). For comparison's sake, the former Superleggera cranked out 530 horsepower, hit 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and topped out at 317 km/h (197 mph).

Hit the break for the leaked photos and don't forget to check back soon for an updated gallery and official info.

Reventon-Style Bodykit for Lamborghini Gallardo

If you're searching for an answer to the question what to do when you own a Lamborghini Gallardo but want the style of the limited run Reventon model, you may want to take a look at these aero part offerings from German tuning firm CDC-International.

Even though the similarities are far less obvious than the tuner would like us to believe, nevertheless, the newly styled protruding front bumper and 'busy' side skirts offer the Gallardo what we'd describe as a more Reventon-ish look.

Lamborghini Gallardo-Based / Powered Ford Mustang is up for Sale!

Monday, February 8, 2010 0 comments

Remember the custom made Ford Mustang with the Lamborghini Gallardo heart and mechanicals from the 2007 SEMA show? Well, this bizarre mishmash that has been baptized 'The Tractorri' (feel free to call it the Mustardo) has been listed for sale for an undisclosed price on Jameslist.

The Tractorri was built by one John Haugh from Cleveland, Ohio, who spent a whole lot of time and cash to marry the body of a 2007 Ford Mustang coupe to the mechanicals - including the 520HP 5.0-liter V10 engine that's mounted behind the front seats, E-gear sequential automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system- of a Gallardo.

The fabricator even went as far as to create a custom interior that mimics the design of the exotic Lamborghini supercar!

If you're interested for a price quote, check out the site here.

Seller's Description:

The crown jewel of our private collection: The Tractorri. The short version? This is a body-in-white '07 Mustang shell with the mechanicals from a Lamborghini Gallardo underneath. From the ABS to the AWD to the E-gear transmission everything works.

The long version adds two more Mustangs for parts, thousands of hours of labor and enough one-off parts to make most show cars blush. Oh, and our president drives it around--he put over 1500 miles on it this summer alone! Built and maintained by our own Rick Roush this is a werewolf in wolf's clothing! Check out the pictures for now and we'll have a full description of the build and show history up shortly!
